Clearline launches new USB-charging multi-plugs

Struggling to find a charging point? Clearline have integrated power and data protection into one scalable multi-plug.

At Clearline we like to be ahead of the game by integrating our vast surge and lightning protection knowledge into new technologies. With the instability of the electrical grid electronic equipment has become more and more susceptible to changes in voltages, at Clearline we set ourselves apart from the competition and cater not only for power surges and lightning strikes but also under voltage conditions by incorporating our trip-connect technology.

Clearline has developed scalable multi plugs that can cater for home users and business’ needs. These new units provide USB charging at 1A, thereby safely charging, not just one device, but multiple devices much faster than conventional 0.5A. By integrating our vast surge and lightning protection knowledge into a charging solution, we can rest assured our beloved handsets and gadgets will be safe from any surge spikes, lightning damage and fluctuations due to load shedding. These units cater for more than just a USB charging platform, they also offer protection for high speed ADSL, Gigabit Network Connections and Power supply for your Computer or Laptop all wrapped into one multi plug.

When purchasing your handset or Tablet, you rarely think about how it charges. Most of us charge our units through the standard charging wall mount cable, or through the USB ports on our PC/Laptops. However, third party USB charging devices are difficult and expensive to come by. They also offer very few option for charging multiple devices at once. Not to mention the danger….Is it possible to blow your device by using the wrong charger?

In short, not when using one of Clearline's USB Charging Multi-plugs — and in fact, using a more powerful charger will speed up battery charging.

The longer answer is that the age of your device plays an important role, dictating both how fast it can be charged, and whether it can be charged using a wall charger at all. Way back in 2007, the USB Implementers Forum released the Battery Charging Specification, which standardized faster ways of charging USB devices, either by pumping more amps through your PC’s USB ports, or by using a wall charger. Shortly thereafter, USB devices that implemented this spec started to arrive.

If you have a modern USB device — really, almost any smartphone, tablet, or camera, anything after 2007 — you should be able to plug into one of Clearline’s USB Charging Multi-plugs and enjoy faster charging. If you have an older device, however, it probably won’t work with USB ports that employ the Battery Charging Specification. It might only work with old school, original (500mA) USB 1.0 and 2.0 PC ports. In some (much older) cases, USB devices can only be charged by computers with specific drivers installed. This is most unlikely with the device your currently using.

There are a few other things to be aware of. While PCs can have two kinds of USB port — standard downstream or charging downstream — OEMs haven’t always labeled them as such. As a result, you might have a device that charges from one port on your laptop, but not from the other. This is a trait of older computers, as there doesn’t seem to be a reason why standard downstream ports would be used, when high-amperage charging ports are available. Many vendors now put a small lightning icon above the proper charging port on laptops, and in some cases, those ports can even stay on when the lid is closed. However using a USB Charing Multi-plug from Clearline, will eliminate the hassle of charging from you laptop or PC.
